Non-commercial licenses rbb, ORB, SFB and rbb media
We license entire programs, contributions and excerpts for non-commercial purposes. This includes, for example, non-commercial screenings, exhibitions, educational or training purposes and non-commercial projects in the field of art and culture.
In the non-commercial sector, we process requests from schools, universities, clubs, museums or other public institutions, but also from companies (corporate communications / use of material for online presence).

For commercial use, we offer historical excerpts and complete productions from over 100 years of broadcasting in Germany. how does licensing work?
Please provide us with the following information:
- Company name and full postal address
- (Working) title of your production of product
- VAT identification number for companies from the EU monetary union
Have you already got your eye on a program or excerpt and would like to purchase a license? We would be happy to make you an offer. In addition to the three points mentioned above, we need the following information:
- Detailed description of the desired material with source information (if necessary sreenshots, film files or a link with timecode information)
- License duration
- License area
- License scope or type of use

Archive Search
You will receive results based on your search criteria for existing programs and articles as a database extract. Extensive research can be commissioned for a fee.
Viewing material
We provide you with viewing material and broadcast-ready material based on researched programs and articles as a download link for a fee.
Licensing
We carry out a rights check for productions or excerpts from the archives of rbb, DRA and rbb media and license the corresponding image and/or sound material, insofar as it belongs to the rights of the archives.
Audio & Video Selection
FAQ
rbb media exclusively licenses the extensive archive holdings of Sender Freies Berlin (SFB), Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB) and Rundfunk-Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) as well as the German Broadcasting Archive (DRA).
rbb media is also responsible for the (commercial) exploitation of the TV program assets of the ARD Captial Studio Berlin (HSB).
We also license series from rbb media GmbH’s own portfolio.
Licenses can be purchased for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
Commercial purposes include the use of our material in, for example, a documentary, an advertising film, a company portrait, product presentations or DVD/CD releases.
Non-commercial purposes include uses in the field of teaching, science and research, internal archiving, employee or customer presentations or online use of contributions by companies or associations as well as artistic or scientific uses in exhibitions or museums.
We will check whether we have the rights to the excerpts/prductions you have requested and, once the rights have been approved, will provide you with a license offer.
The costs depend on how, where and how long the material is to be used.
In addition, there are processing fees for researching and clarifying rights, as well as technical costs, which may depend on the effort involved and the duration of the material. If you would like to receive information about the license costs, please contact us. Our license specialists will provide you with comprehensive information about the fees and processes of licensing.
Please note that the creation of a broadcast copy is not financed by the broadcasting fee. It is a service offered by rbb media GmbH on behalf Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg.
The average processing time in the commercial sector is 2-5 working days. If time is of the essence, please let us know by phone. How quickly we can provide the material also depends on the form in which the original material is available and in what form it is to be delivered.
You can order viewing material from us for a fee so that you can make a precise selection for your production. You can view a selection of video clips from our archives on our YouTube channel „footage berlin“
We would be happy to research our archives for you. If you have only inaccurate or very little information, of if you would like a particularly extensive search, there will be research costs which we will discuss with you in advance.
Independent research in the archive holdings is not possible.
